Pedagogy

Sage Pedagogy

The Art & Science of Teaching

At Sage, the term Pedagogy encompasses everything our educators do to support children to learn and achieve positive outcomes. Essentially, pedagogy refers to our professional practice.

Our pedagogy is based on collective values, beliefs, experience and research into learning. At Sage we believe in innovation, and we always seek new ways of doing things in education and care. Our hands-on research and professional collaboration enable us to implement pedagogical approaches that meet the needs of children in our care.

Our Pedagogical approach cannot be simplified to one method of teaching and learning. We don’t believe in a one size fits all approach to children. Our core belief is that children are unique and therefore our approaches should be unique and adaptable to the children who walk through our doors.

Sage pedagogy and the Principles and Practices of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) are intertwined.

The underlying components of our pedagogy are found in our Educational Philosophy:

The Environment as the third teacher: Creating meaningful, resource rich and interactive environments that can be discovered through the Sage Learning Hubs.

Intentional teaching: where our educators drive and actively plan for children’s learning. It involves sharing new information with children, demonstrating specific skills and tasks, and providing sequenced guidance to children to support in their ongoing preparation for Kindergarten.

Play-Based Learning: Children learn through play by exploring, experimenting, and interacting with their peers and their environment. We believe children learn best when they are active, engaged, and having fun.

Relationships: Children are social beings and often learn and understand things in the context of others. We believe relationships are key to supporting children to feel safe, secure and confident in their learning journeys.
