Learning Hubs

Learning Hubs – ‘Curiosity meets learning’

The children will be welcomed into an environment that is full of wonder and exploration. Featuring in the environment, both indoors and outdoors, will be the Sage Education learning hubs that are designed with your child in mind. Through the learning hubs we grow with your child adjusting our resources to support your children's ever-changing interests and progress towards reaching milestones. The learning hubs will house a variety of resources that are suited to the focus areas. Children will have the freedom to lead their play and learning across all learning hubs as they use their creativity and make meaning from the materials in their environment.

  • STEM

STEM refers to the integrated exploration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Children will have opportunities to inquire and investigate and use critical thinking and problem solving to learn about the world around them and how things are connected. Our STEM hub encourages hands on learning where children can experiment and be innovative. Children will have access to a range of tools including recycled and natural materials. They will be exposed to measurement and counting, cause and effect, classifying and sorting, nature and life cycles and many forms of technology.

  • Creativity

Children are creative beings and should have a variety of opportunities to express themselves creatively. In this learning hub children will have access to all forms of arts such as visual arts, crafts, painting, drawing, writing, sensory and messy play, as well as music, singing and movement. Creative expression strongly supports children’s emotional wellbeing as they use their senses and find enjoyment from the process and product of their creations.

  • Imagination

Here is where children will be able to let their imaginations run wild and engage in dramatic play. Dramatic play involves children role playing and acting out make believe scenarios. It is often a way for children to learn about themselves and how they relate to others. Dramatic play is also a great form of self-expression with limitless potential in supporting children to make sense of the world around them. The imagination hub will be enhanced with creative resources such as costumes and props. Staged real-life settings like kitchens, grocery stores, doctor surgeries and hairdressers will be meaningfully designed to meet the children’s interests.

  • Construction

Our construction hub houses a variety of materials that allow children to build their own creations. Children have access to blocks of different shapes, styles and sizes, magnets, Legos and other connectables. They also have access to recycled items that children love to use for endless structural possibilities. In this space children have opportunities to collaborate with others to build together and to practice their sharing, turn-taking and negotiation skills.

  • Tranquility

Children need time unwind and relax and experience solitude when they feel the need. Our tranquillity hub provides children with opportunities for quiet experiences that they can often do by themselves. This includes exploring books, looking at pictures, sensory play, listening to music and exploring nature. This hub incudes our calm down areas where the children will explore yoga, meditation and breathing techniques. They will have access to comforting toys and fidget tools that can help to calm their minds when they need a change of pace.

  • The Yarning Hub

Our yarning hub is a space for a shared group time. Children will come together to sit and have a yarn and share their feelings, ideas and thoughts whether it be about projects taking place in the room, what they did on the weekend, or simply discussing a story after Storytime. Show and tell will occur in our yarning hub where children will be encouraged to share something from home and talk to the group about it. This is an opportunity for children to develop their talking and listening skills as well as social skills such as sharing and turn-taking.
